Title of the Technical Note:
IBM 600 COM1 Problem
Subtitle :- F/IBM/600/COM1
Applies to: IBM 600 Thinkpad
Last updated: Friday January 09, 2004.
SUMMARY
The serial port is faulty.
It won't allow external modem or my cell-phone to connect, and I have tried to get
it to talk to the external port by disabling everything else including the infra-red port
etc.
I went in to the CMOS setup and tested the serial port and the second time it showed an
error,
ie Com Port Error - DEV 011, ERR 14, FRU 0010.
The next time I tested it came up OK.
However, it fails a loop back test and also fails data Tx onCheck-It V3.
The internal modem works (on Com2) but also shows an error on
data Tx on Check-It.
Note: Edited certain colourful words ;-)
RESPONSE:-
- This is the description of possible fix.
- Try resetting up the IBM Software for COM1 to
IRQ 4 I/O 03F8 - 03FF from WIN'95
Then Go to Control Panel - System - COM1 to verify settings.
Dong says that sometimes IBM Thinkpads have a problem defining the correct COM ports.
Disable COM3, and check Sound Card & Int Modem I/O's for conflicts.
