The PCMCIA Ethernet card comes with a base unit
and a media coupler. The media coupler, which connects to the network cables, is attached
to the base unit through it's 15 pin connector. The PCMCIA Ethernet card consists of one
base unit and one media coupler.
The base unit contains the Ethernet controller and interface to the notebook's PCMCIA slot
for configuration storage and RAM data buffer. The media coupler has a 15 pin connector for
connecting to the base unit and the two network connectors for attaching it to the
Ethernet LAN.Automatic media detection
The network connection is automatically detected by the MAC
driver you use. No configuration is needed for the connector type used. You will need to
reload the MAC driver again, if you want to change the connector type after you have
already loaded the MAC driver. You cannot disconnect a cable type from it's connector and
connect a different cable type to another connector while the network is on operation.
Software Configuration
Configuration of the PCMCIA card is automatic. the PC host
automatically detects the available resources and allocates them for use by the card. For
older machines that don't provide Socket Service or Card Service you can specify your own
IRQ and base I/O address.
